Openreach Puts 94 UK Exchanges on Fibre-Only Sales Notice

Providers have 12 months to migrate customers in areas covering nearly one million premises.

Overview

  • The company will end sales of copper-based phone and broadband products in the newly named exchange areas.
  • BT, Sky, TalkTalk and Vodafone are among providers that must prepare customer migrations during the notice period.
  • Openreach says running copper alongside fibre no longer makes operational or commercial sense.
  • Its full fibre network now passes more than 18 million premises after adding over four million in the past year, with 1.8 million customers connected in 2024.
  • The rollout plan targets a 20% build-rate increase to pass up to five million more properties by March 2026 and reach 25 million by December 2026.
