Overview

  • OpenAI will act as an off-taker in Stargate Norway, a 50/50 joint venture between British infrastructure firm Nscale and Norway’s Aker ASA.
  • The data center will initially provide 230 MW of capacity with plans to expand to 290 MW and will reuse excess heat for local low-carbon enterprises.
  • Closed-loop direct-to-chip liquid cooling and abundant hydropower will power the facility entirely with renewable energy.
  • Nscale and Aker have each committed about $1 billion to bring the first 20 MW of compute online.
  • Stargate Norway advances Europe’s drive for sovereign AI under the EU AI Act and complements OpenAI’s earlier deployments in Texas and the UAE.
