Overview
- At its DevDay in San Francisco on Tuesday, OpenAI launched a $500-per-month Pro 500 plan that includes an "Ultrafast" mode for GPT-6 Astra and bundled Dots always-on agents for premium subscribers.
- OpenAI said Ultrafast can boost coding throughput by up to eight times in Codex and has been reported to reach about 300 tokens per second for high-throughput workloads, with API access planned for intense production use.
- The company reopened its $200 Pro plan but will cut its included allowance from 20× the $20 Plus level to 10× and halve GPT-6 Pro chat messages from 200 to 100 per week effective October 30.
- Existing $200 subscribers keep current limits through October 29 and will receive a one-time grant of 62,500 usage credits valued at $2,500 that expire on December 31, 2026.
- The changes follow earlier sign-up pauses for Astra capacity, have prompted negative developer reaction on social platforms, and position OpenAI to monetize heavy usage while offering cheaper models like GPT-6.1 Sol as lower-cost alternatives.
