OpenAI to Acquire Statsig in $1.1 Billion All-Stock Deal, Bringing Founder In as Applications CTO

The move brings Statsig’s experimentation platform in-house to speed development across OpenAI’s applications.

Overview

  • OpenAI said the acquisition is an all-stock transaction valued at about $1.1 billion and remains subject to regulatory approval and other customary closing conditions.
  • Statsig founder Vijaye Raji will become OpenAI’s chief technology officer of applications, reporting to Applications CEO Fidji Simo, with responsibility for product engineering on ChatGPT and Codex.
  • Upon closing, Statsig employees will join OpenAI while the startup continues serving customers from its Seattle office under a measured integration plan.
  • OpenAI also announced leadership changes with Srinivas Narayanan moving to CTO of B2B Applications and Kevin Weil transitioning to vice president of AI for Science.
  • The purchase extends a year of major deals for OpenAI, following the roughly $6.5 billion acquisition of Jony Ive’s io Products and a planned Windsurf buy that did not close.
