OpenAI to Acquire Statsig for $1.1 Billion in Stock, Reshapes Product Leadership

The purchase positions Statsig’s experimentation platform to accelerate OpenAI’s applications strategy pending regulatory review.

Overview

  • OpenAI agreed to buy product-experimentation firm Statsig in an all-stock deal valuing the startup at about $1.1 billion, subject to regulatory approval.
  • Statsig CEO Vijaye Raji will become CTO of Applications, reporting to Fidji Simo, and will oversee product engineering for ChatGPT and Codex with responsibilities spanning core systems and integrity.
  • Until any integration, Statsig will keep serving customers from its Seattle office, and its staff will join OpenAI once the transaction closes.
  • OpenAI also reassigned senior leaders: Srinivas Narayanan moves to CTO of B2B Applications under COO Brad Lightcap, and Kevin Weil shifts to lead a new AI for Science organization.
  • Founded in 2021, Statsig provides A/B testing and feature-flag tools used by companies including OpenAI and raised $100 million earlier this year, as the deal ranks among OpenAI’s largest acquisitions.
