Overview
- OpenAI announced the Mexico pilot on Thursday to run ads only for users 18 or older on the free and Go plans while Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Education tiers remain ad-free.
- Ads will appear after the AI’s organic reply and will be visually separated and marked as sponsored so the model’s answers stay unchanged.
- OpenAI says it will not share user conversations, memories or personal data with advertisers and will give advertisers only aggregate campaign metrics such as impressions and clicks.
- The pilot will include agency partners Dentsu, Publicis, WPP and Omnicom and will offer a self‑service ad platform and new audience and measurement tools rolled out gradually.
- OpenAI frames the move as a way to monetize nonpaying users by tapping the higher commercial intent in ChatGPT conversations and will watch agency feedback and measurement results to shape a wider rollout that includes Brazil.
