OpenAI, Oracle and SoftBank Add Five U.S. Stargate Sites as Funding Tops $400 Billion

The venture says it is ahead of schedule to hit its 10‑gigawatt, $500 billion target by year end.

Overview

  • The new locations are Shackelford County, Texas; Milam County, Texas; Doña Ana County, New Mexico; Lordstown, Ohio; and an undisclosed Midwest site.
  • OpenAI says commitments now exceed $400 billion over the next three years with nearly 7 gigawatts of planned capacity on the path to 10 gigawatts.
  • The flagship Abilene, Texas campus has one building operating and a second nearing completion, with the eight-building site expected to draw about 900 megawatts.
  • SoftBank has begun construction in Ohio, while Oracle is partnering on builds in Texas, New Mexico and the Midwest.
  • Site selection emphasizes energy availability, fast permits, local talent and land, and OpenAI says it reviewed over 300 proposals from more than 30 states with more sites to follow.
