Overview
- OpenAI and Google Cloud announced on Wednesday that OpenAI’s frontier GPT‑6 models and the Codex coding agent will be listed in Google Cloud’s Model Garden and Marketplace for purchase through Google’s billing.
- Customers will be able to charge OpenAI model use against existing Google Cloud spending commitments so teams can buy the models from the same platform that hosts their apps and data.
- OpenAI models will be integrated into Google’s Antigravity development environment and the Gemini Agent, with select enterprise customers in private preview and broader general availability and API access expected in the coming weeks.
- Google Cloud says it will apply its access controls and data governance tools to OpenAI model usage so regulated industries can run agentic workflows on Google infrastructure without moving sensitive data to a separate vendor.
- The deal completes OpenAI’s presence across the three major U.S. clouds after the end of its Microsoft exclusivity and reflects a larger industry shift where hyperscalers act as neutral sellers and gatekeepers of top closed models.
