Overview
- OpenAI began a limited beta that lets select ChatGPT Pro subscribers in the United States message their Dots via iMessage or RCS, and the agents can send proactive replies in the same thread.
- Users set up texting inside the ChatGPT app by opening a Dot profile, selecting the texting option, adding and verifying a phone number, and the Dot can appear as a contact in Messages.
- The messaging support accepts text, photos and voice notes so Dots can take tasks or send updates without opening the ChatGPT app.
- OpenAI also added iCloud Calendar and Mail plugins that require app-specific passwords to let Dots read, create and manage iCloud events and mail items.
- Dots run on GPT‑6 Astra, were launched late September as persistent agents with plugin access across thousands of apps, and the messaging beta raises practical questions about privacy, billing for delegated tasks and how always-on agents use personal data.
