Overview
- OpenAI rolled out coordinated Codex updates on Thursday and Friday that let users send tasks from their phone for Codex to operate allowed Mac apps even when the Mac screen is off and locked.
- The new Computer Use capability requires users to install a Computer Use plugin and grant Screen Recording and Accessibility permissions, and Codex asks for consent before using each new app with an option to mark apps as always allowed.
- Appshots, introduced in the update, captures a screenshot plus extracted text from an app window via a Command-Command shortcut so Codex has immediate, richer context for multi-step work.
- An upgraded /goal mode lets Codex pursue user‑set milestones across hours or days with options to check in, steer, or pause progress, and mobile improvements add turn-completion push alerts and new commands.
- OpenAI also added enterprise tools such as plugin sharing, richer analytics on usage and code generation, Remote SSH and programmatic tokens, and it restricted the Computer Use feature in the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland.
