OpenAI Launches In‑Chat Apps and Marketplace for ChatGPT, Starting Outside the EU

The move turns ChatGPT into a platform for third‑party services inside the conversation.

  • Initial integrations include Spotify, Canva, Booking.com, Expedia, Zillow, Coursera and Figma, with partners such as Uber, OpenTable, DoorDash, Instacart, Tripadvisor, AllTrails, Peloton and Target slated to follow.
  • Apps can be invoked directly by users or autonomously by ChatGPT during a chat, with first‑use consent prompts that disclose data sharing and optional log‑ins to unlock premium features.
  • Access is available now to logged‑in users on Free, Go, Plus and Pro tiers outside the EU, with English as the initial language and EU availability expected later this year.
  • OpenAI introduced an Apps SDK built on the Model Context Protocol to connect external services, and developers will be able to submit apps to a built‑in directory for review later this year.
  • Commerce features are in development so users can complete purchases within ChatGPT, and Spotify’s integration supports playlist creation with personalized options for Premium subscribers.
