OpenAI Co-Founder John Schulman Joins Former CTO Mira Murati's Stealth AI Startup

Schulman departs Anthropic after a brief tenure, joining Murati's venture, which has attracted talent from top AI firms.

John Schulman, a co-founder of OpenAI and key architect of ChatGPT, has left Anthropic after just five months to join Mira Murati's stealth AI startup.
Murati, the former CTO of OpenAI, departed the company in September 2024 and has since been building a new venture, reportedly raising over $100 million in funding discussions last October.
The startup, which remains unnamed and has not publicly outlined its product focus, has recruited talent from OpenAI, Character AI, and Google DeepMind.
Schulman joined Anthropic in August 2024 to focus on AI alignment and hands-on technical work but has not publicly explained his decision to leave the company.
Murati's startup has also hired other notable AI experts, including Christian Gibson from OpenAI’s supercomputing team and Jonathan Lachman, formerly of OpenAI’s special projects.
