OpenAI Co-Founder John Schulman Joins Former CTO Mira Murati's Stealth AI Startup

Schulman departs Anthropic after a brief tenure, joining Murati's venture, which has attracted talent from top AI firms.

  • Murati, the former CTO of OpenAI, departed the company in September 2024 and has since been building a new venture, reportedly raising over $100 million in funding discussions last October.
  • The startup, which remains unnamed and has not publicly outlined its product focus, has recruited talent from OpenAI, Character AI, and Google DeepMind.
  • Schulman joined Anthropic in August 2024 to focus on AI alignment and hands-on technical work but has not publicly explained his decision to leave the company.
