Overview
- OpenAI released the iCloud Mail and Calendar plugins on Tuesday, and they are available across web, desktop and iOS for all ChatGPT plans.
- The Calendar plugin can read, schedule and update events while the Mail plugin can search and read iCloud messages, manage drafts, send email and look up iCloud contacts.
- Both plugins require an Apple app-specific password and only connect to Apple-provided iCloud addresses ending in @icloud.com, @me.com or @mac.com, not other accounts like Gmail or Outlook in the iOS Mail app.
- The new integrations enable ChatGPT’s always-on Dots agents to use iCloud data for tasks, but OpenAI warns that some feature combinations and multi-step workflows may not work reliably yet and will need further testing.
- The change follows OpenAI’s recent rollout of Dots and broader DevDay announcements and brings ChatGPT closer to the level of system access virtual assistants have on Apple devices while raising familiar questions about consent, data scope and real-world reliability.
