OpenAI Adds GPT‑6 and Codex to Google Cloud Model Garden

The deal lets enterprises buy and run OpenAI’s frontier models inside Google Cloud so they can keep billing, access controls and data governance on their existing platform.

Overview

  • OpenAI and Google Cloud announced the agreement Wednesday, listing OpenAI’s frontier models and Codex workflows in Google Cloud’s Model Garden with general availability expected in the coming weeks.
  • Select GPT‑6 models — Astra, GPT‑6.1 Sol and Luna — are rolling out in a private preview on Google Cloud for chosen enterprise customers and will expand to more users soon.
  • Customers will purchase access through the Google Cloud Marketplace and charge usage to their existing cloud spending commitments with a single Google Cloud invoice.
  • Google Cloud says prompts, context and outputs will stay inside customer data boundaries and that the integration pairs OpenAI models with Google’s access controls, centralized governance and Confidential Compute options.
  • The move completes OpenAI’s presence across the three major U.S. clouds and shows hyperscalers serving as neutral model marketplaces that host competitors, take a share of sales, and compete on billing and enterprise controls while Microsoft remains OpenAI’s primary cloud partner.
