OpenAI Adds Editable, Collaborative Slides Inside ChatGPT Space

The launch is limited to higher-priced plans and forces IT teams to check export fidelity, access controls, and Windows desktop requirements before wide adoption.

Overview

  • OpenAI began rolling out ChatGPT Slides on Friday, October 16, to eligible Pro, Business, and Enterprise accounts with Space access, turning chats, outlines, and files into editable presentation decks.
  • Slides supports slide-level editing of text, images, shapes, tables, and charts, real-time multi-user editing, shared comments, in-app presenting, and export to PowerPoint, PDF, or Google Slides.
  • The feature lives inside ChatGPT Space rather than as a PowerPoint add-in, so decks remain editable inside ChatGPT and can be presented without opening separate apps.
  • Launch limitations include no comment-only permission (collaborators get view or edit), Windows devices without a required desktop component falling back to static PowerPoint files, Windows 10 not supported, and Windows 11 possibly needing updates or admin enablement.
  • The Slides rollout follows OpenAI’s August acquisition of NextSlide and is part of a broader push to make ChatGPT a productivity hub, so organizations should pilot exports, templates, fonts, access rules, and review workflows before scaling use.
