OpenAI Academy India Launches to Broaden AI Training Nationwide

Overview

  • OpenAI and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s IndiaAI Mission signed an MoU on June 5 to provide AI skills training for students, developers, civil servants, non-profit leaders and small business owners across India.
  • The program blends free online video tutorials, interactive modules, expert-led workshops and in-person events available initially in English and Hindi with plans to add four regional languages.
  • OpenAI will grant up to $100,000 in API credits to 50 IndiaAI Mission-approved startups and fellows and host hackathons in seven states that aim to engage about 25,000 students.
  • The academy will integrate its content into the FutureSkills and iGOT Karmayogi platforms to support government capacity building and will train one million teachers in generative AI tools.
  • OpenAI is pursuing partnerships with private and public sector firms to help build local AI infrastructure, including planning for potential data center capacity in India.
