Ontario Will Move 16 Wolf-Dog Hybrids to Nearby Sanctuary

The animals were kept illegally under provincial wildlife rules.

Overview

  • The Ministry of Natural Resources told owner Bryton Bongard the pack will be placed in an Ontario sanctuary within driving distance of Wahnapitae.
  • Officials confirmed the animals will not be euthanized after their transfer from Bongard’s property north of Sudbury.
  • Bongard pleaded guilty on Monday to illegally keeping the wolf-dogs and received a $5,500 fine.
  • He says he hopes to keep donating meat scraps to feed the animals and to visit them after relocation.
  • Authorities had earlier warned the pack could be “disposed of” if no placement was found, prompting a petition, and the sanctuary’s exact location has not been disclosed.
