Ontario Science Centre to Open Interim Harbourfront Site in Summer 2026

The move preserves public programming during construction of a new Ontario Place facility now targeted for 2029.

Overview

  • The province confirmed an interim location at Toronto’s Harbourfront Centre that will expand to about 86,000 square feet with exhibition halls, classrooms, outdoor program areas and community spaces.
  • Officials say the relocation will safeguard jobs and support waterfront tourism as work continues on the permanent Ontario Place site.
  • KidSpark, which has operated at Harbourfront since December 2024, will anchor the expanded programming at the temporary venue.
  • The pop-up exhibit at CF Sherway Gardens will stay open through Jan. 4, 2026 before operations shift to the Harbourfront site.
  • The Don Mills facility was closed in June 2024 after an engineering report warned of potential roof-panel failure, a rationale disputed by staff and critics, and the interim site follows months of uncertainty over a temporary replacement.
