Ontario Police Bust Drug Networks with Record Fentanyl and Cocaine Seizures

Authorities report no evidence that seized fentanyl was destined for export to the United States.

Overview

  • Ontario Provincial Police seized a record 43.5 kg of fentanyl—the equivalent of 435,000 street doses—alongside methamphetamine, cocaine and other illicit substances across two operations.
  • Project Golden, launched in July 2024, saw OPP execute raids in Oxford, Norfolk, Hamilton, Mississauga and Toronto on May 28 to net 38 kg of fentanyl and 19.5 kg of methamphetamine, resulting in 15 arrests facing 140 charges.
  • Project Bionic, the OPP’s first dark-web probe begun in November 2024, led to the seizure of more than 27 kg of various illegal drugs, 64,000 tablets, a stolen Ferrari valued at over $400,000 and four arrests on 85 charges.
  • Peel Regional Police’s Project Pelican dismantled a transnational cocaine ring by intercepting 479 kg of cocaine worth $47.9 million at Ontario border crossings and in the Greater Toronto Area.
  • In total, 28 individuals face dozens of charges for drug trafficking and firearms offences following operations that leveraged partnerships with CBSA, the U.S. DEA and Homeland Security Investigations.
