Overview
- Offices will open in January at Thames Valley, Dufferin-Peel Catholic, Ottawa-Carleton, Toronto Catholic and Toronto District, where provincially appointed supervisors now make decisions.
- All other school boards must file plans by March 31 to launch their offices by September 1, 2026, with service standards to acknowledge inquiries within two business days and aim to respond within five.
- Each office will be led by a supervisory officer and positioned as a new escalation path for families after contacting a teacher and principal.
- Education Minister Paul Calandra has said he does not foresee returning supervised boards to trustees and is considering eliminating trustee positions, as the government advances Bill 33 to expand ministerial powers and ease supervision.
- Critics, including trustees and the NDP education critic, question funding, staffing and accountability, noting supervisors can earn up to $350,000 while trustee roles pay far less.
