ONPE Sends Peru Primary Results to JNE, Tie Forces Draw in Salvemos al Perú

The JNE is due to proclaim the outcomes by December 15 ahead of the December 23 registration deadline.

Overview

  • ONPE finalized and transmitted the full primary tallies for 34 parties and three alliances to the JNE and to party electoral bodies after counting 100% of records with no challenged votes or observed tally sheets.
  • Salvemos al Perú’s presidential contest ended in an exact tie between Antonio Ortiz and Mariano González, which electoral rules require to be settled by a public draw such as a coin toss or drawing lots under official supervision.
  • Acción Popular recorded an equal vote between two delegate lists in La Libertad, a tie that will also be resolved by a supervised draw, according to ONPE guidance and electoral specialists.
  • Ciudadanos por el Perú and Frepap will not present a presidential ticket from the primaries, as confirmed by ONPE.
  • In the December 7 delegate primaries, 1,015 of 1,208 registered delegates voted, and more than 2 million citizens have already chosen preferred polling locations on ONPE’s platform, which remains open until December 14.
