- Which? purchased 20 pairs of children’s sunglasses from Amazon, AliExpress, eBay, Temu, TikTok, and Shein and found one third lacked required UV protection and CE or UKCA markings.
- Two models showed dangerously low UV filtering despite marketing full protection, while several others made misleading claims or blocked UV unevenly between lenses.
- All six platforms have removed the flagged listings pending further review after being alerted to the non-compliant products.
- Which? Director of Policy and Advocacy Rocio Concha warned that without legal duties and fines for online marketplaces under the Product Regulation and Metrology Bill, unsafe products will continue to reach consumers.
- Parents are advised to buy CE- or UKCA-marked sunglasses from trusted brands or high street stores, where compliance with UK safety rules is more stringent.
