Onimusha: Way of the Sword Sets September 25 Release, Demo Drops Now

The September launch places Capcom’s long-dormant samurai series in a crowded retail window that could squeeze sales

Overview

  • Capcom announced during Sony’s State of Play on Tuesday, June 2 that Onimusha: Way of the Sword will launch on September 25, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC (Steam and Epic Games Store).
  • A surprise free demo went live the same day on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC and lets players sample the Kiyomizu-dera stage and battle rival Sasaki Ganryu.
  • Players who try the demo will earn a Kubi Akari charm redeemable in the full game, but demo progress will not carry over into the retail release.
  • Pre-orders are open now in Standard, Deluxe and Premium Deluxe editions with listed prices and cosmetic pre-order bonuses, and Capcom said it will publish an official PC benchmark tool later.
  • Way of the Sword is the fourth mainline Onimusha entry and the franchise’s first mainline release in roughly two decades, and its late-September slot puts it in an unusually dense release calendar that may affect its commercial performance.
