OnePlus Flips the Foldable Script
Samsung, Google foldable competition heating up as OnePlus enters fray at lower price
- OnePlus has released their first foldable phone, the OnePlus Open, which offers a sleek design, great camera quality, and excellent display but falls short in other areas such as a lack of wireless charging.
- Priced at $1,700, the OnePlus Open matches the thickness of Google's Pixel Fold and has a thinner profile than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 in its unfolded state.
- The device differentiates itself with a nearly invisible crease when fully opened, making it the closest to a creaseless foldable on the market.
- The OnePlus Open's camera system, which occupies over a third of the device's back panel, is noted for its colour rendering and includes a stabilised 48MP main camera, 64MP 3x telephoto with optical image stabilization, and a 48MP ultrawide lens.
- Despite its strengths, the device is criticized for its hefty price tag, fragile build, absence of wireless charging, and non-inclusion of IPX8 water-resistance rating.
