Despite Decrease in Anti-Asian Incidents, Overall Hate Crimes Rise by 7%

About a third of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have experienced racial abuse in the past year, including verbal harassment, slurs, physical threats, and cyberbullying.
15% of Asian American and Pacific Islanders believe they have been the victim of a hate crime.
Despite a reported 33% decrease in anti-Asian incidents in 2022 from 2021, the FBI reported a 7% overall increase in hate crimes.
President Joe Biden's approval rating among Asian Americans is 52%, higher than his overall approval rating of 44% among U.S. adults.
About half of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders believe they are likely to be a victim of racial discrimination in the next five years, and 40% believe they will be the target of a hate crime.
