• Four armed men stormed the Shrinathji Jewellers showroom in Surat’s Sachin area Monday evening and fled with gold ornaments worth around Rs 10 lakh.
• Owner Ashish Rajpara, who intervened after spotting the robbery on a CCTV feed, was shot twice in the chest and died shortly after reaching hospital.
• Bystanders Nazim Shaikh and jeweller Rohit Soni were wounded when the gunmen opened fire during a locals’ pursuit.
• Locals chased down and overpowered one suspect, identified as Dipak Paswan, who was beaten before being handed over to police and is now receiving medical treatment.
• Investigators have identified the other three suspects and a local coordinator and are reviewing CCTV footage along with forensic evidence in an ongoing manhunt.
