One of Big Bear’s Famous Bald Eaglets Dies Following Severe Snowstorm

The chick, born to the popular eagle pair Jackie and Shadow, was discovered dead after heavy snowfall obscured the view of their nest.

The eaglet, one of three hatched earlier this month, was confirmed dead by the Friends of Big Bear Valley nonprofit following a storm that brought over two feet of snow to the area.
The exact cause of death remains unknown, though the eaglet was last seen alive during a feeding on Thursday evening, March 13.
The nonprofit dispelled rumors that the chick's death was caused by parental actions, such as being stepped on or knocked from the nest.
The remaining two eaglets are reported to be doing well, receiving multiple feedings from their parents, Jackie and Shadow, on Saturday.
