Overview

• Late Sunday night near the Plaza bus stop in Dadar, a speeding Tempo Traveller struck the front-right of a wet-lease BEST bus, causing it to veer into people waiting at the stop.
• The collision killed Shahabuddin, 37, and injured seven others who were taken to Sion Hospital; the injured include Rahul, Rohit and Akshay Padale, Vidya Mote, Abhishek Rautkar and Abdul Nadir Shaikh.
• Shivaji Park police arrested the driver, identified as Sanjay (also reported as Sandesh) Kumbhar, 27, after medical examination indicated alcohol use.
• Officers registered a case citing BNS sections for negligence and rash driving and Motor Vehicles Act sections for dangerous and drunken driving.
• The bus, a Mateshwari wet-lease vehicle on Route 169 returning to Pratiksha Nagar from Worli, was towed to Wadala for an RTO inspection after its front tyre burst and windshield shattered; a taxi and a tourist car were also damaged.
