One Killed in Early-Morning Fiery Crash on Northbound I-25 Near Thornton

Two right lanes of northbound I-25 south of 84th Avenue remain closed following the fatal crash

Overview

  • The crash occurred around 4:18 a.m. Monday when a vehicle veered into the highway’s side wall just south of 84th Avenue and ignited on impact
  • The sole occupant of the car was pronounced dead at the scene and has not yet been identified by the coroner’s office
  • Adams County Fire Rescue and Colorado State Patrol teams extinguished the blaze and secured the area before initiating lane closures
  • The Colorado Department of Transportation has given no estimate for reopening the two right lanes between U.S. 36 and exit 219
  • Motorists are being advised to use alternate routes and expect significant delays while authorities investigate the cause of the collision
