One in Four Germans Say They Miss Merkel, Civey Poll Finds

The online Nov. 4–6 survey of about 5,000 adults coincides with CDU youth leader criticism of her recent public interventions.

Knapp vier Jahre nach dem Ende der Kanzlerschaft von Angela Merkel (CDU) wünscht sie sich einer Umfrage zufolge jede und jeder vierte Deutsche zurück.

Overview

  • Support was strongest among backers of The Left at 61% and the Greens at 52%, compared with 34% for SPD voters and 22% for the Union.
  • About one in three respondents aged 18 to 29 said they miss her, versus 19% among those over 65.
  • Responses showed a clear urban gradient, with stronger longing reported in more urban regions.
  • Civey conducted the online poll Nov. 4–6 with roughly 5,000 adults for Funke-Mediengruppe publications, and describes the results as representative.
