Overview

  • The shooting erupted shortly before 11 p.m. on June 21 after a fight broke out near Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6089 during the county’s sixth annual Juneteenth celebration.
  • Authorities identified the slain victim as 35-year-old Laporshia Janae Gray Cobb, whose death was ruled a homicide following a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
  • Ten people were injured and treated at hospitals in Anderson and Greenville, with one patient airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital.
  • More than 100 law enforcement officers, emergency responders and wildlife agents processed dozens of shell casings and evidence markers at the scene as roads remained closed into Sunday morning.
  • No suspects have been named and detectives continue to collect witness statements and forensic evidence in an active investigation.
