One Dead, Police Officer Injured in Côte-d’Or Highway Shootout

A police operation targeting organized immigration crime led to a deadly gunfight, with three suspects in custody and one still at large.

A shootout occurred on an A31 highway rest area near Selongey, Côte-d’Or, during a police surveillance operation late Friday night.
Two RAID officers were monitoring a British-registered vehicle as part of an investigation into organized illegal immigration and criminal conspiracy.
The officers were fired upon with automatic weapons by two individuals from the vehicle, prompting the police to return fire.
One individual was killed, three suspects of Iraqi nationality were arrested, and a fourth suspect remains at large.
The injured officer, who was shot in the leg, is in stable condition, and two separate investigations have been launched into the incident.
