Overview
- Troopers say the crash occurred around 11:39 p.m. Wednesday at mile marker 3 in Baca County, just north of the state line.
- The southbound Peterbilt came to a stop in the southbound lanes and became fully engulfed in flames, and its driver died at the scene.
- The northbound Peterbilt driver from Texas veered off the right side of the road, and a following Volvo driven by a Florida man left the roadway and struck a barbed wire fence.
- U.S. 287 was closed in both directions overnight and reopened at about 8:50 a.m. Thursday after crews cleared the scene.
