One Dead, Four Wounded in Danville Gathering Shooting; Suspect Charged

Police have charged a 26-year-old Danville man in the shooting that killed one person, leaving four others wounded.

Overview

  • The shooting erupted around 1:30 a.m. Sunday on private property near Carver Drive when gunfire was exchanged between occupants of a Chrysler sedan and attendees at a large outdoor gathering.
  • The sole fatality was identified as 22-year-old Jay’Shaun Tiejae White of Hurt, Virginia, who was found in the front passenger seat of the sedan.
  • Four additional victims—two adult men and a 19-year-old woman—suffered gunshot wounds; the woman has been released while the men remain hospitalized.
  • Authorities arrested 26-year-old Juwan Montel Baker, a passenger in the sedan, and charged him with discharging a firearm from a moving vehicle, malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
  • According to the Gun Violence Archive, this incident is one of at least 127 shootings this year in which four or more people were shot.
