One Dead, Four Injured in Safdarjung Enclave Basement Collapse During Excavation

Police have opened an inquiry to trace the site owner following the collapse.

Overview

  • A 60-year-old worker, Hari Mohan of Madangir, died after a corner pillar and adjoining soil slipped during digging, triggering a partial wall collapse.
  • Four labourers—Pradeep, Chiku, Babulal and Ashok—were rescued with injuries and remain hospitalised, with one under treatment at the AIIMS Trauma Centre.
  • Emergency teams from Delhi Police, Delhi Fire Services and the Disaster Rescue Team responded around 6 pm, extricated the trapped workers and secured the site.
  • Authorities received a distress call from B-5 Block, Safdarjung Enclave, and transferred the injured to Sukhmani Hospital and AIIMS after multiple extractions.
  • Local residents alleged careless practices and blocked streets at the project, while officials said rescue work has concluded and legal action is underway.
