One Dead, Four Injured in Florida Mall Fountain Electrocution Incident

Investigation ongoing as three children and an adult continue to recover after a tragic incident where a fountain at Harbourside Place shopping center in Florida became electrified, despite being off-limits and marked with no-climbing signs.

  • The electrocution incident occurred Sunday afternoon at Harbourside Place, a shopping center in Jupiter, Florida, when a child climbed into an outdoor fountain that was off-limits and marked with no climbing signs.
  • After the child went into distress, four others unknowingly entered the electrified water to help him, resulting in one adult death and four other injuries.
  • The three children victims were transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center and were still recovering in the hospital as of Monday.
  • One adult victim, who was transported to Jupiter Medical Center, was released from the hospital while the second adult tragically died at the same location.
  • Ongoing investigation into the incident is being carried out by the Jupiter Police Department, in cooperation with the town’s building department, Harbourside Place, and Florida Power & Light, to determine how the fountain became electrified.
