One Dead, Four Injured in Florida Mall Fountain Electrocution Incident

Investigation ongoing as three children and an adult continue to recover after a tragic incident where a fountain at Harbourside Place shopping center in Florida became electrified, despite being off-limits and marked with no-climbing signs.

The electrocution incident occurred Sunday afternoon at Harbourside Place, a shopping center in Jupiter, Florida, when a child climbed into an outdoor fountain that was off-limits and marked with no climbing signs.
After the child went into distress, four others unknowingly entered the electrified water to help him, resulting in one adult death and four other injuries.
The three children victims were transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center and were still recovering in the hospital as of Monday.
One adult victim, who was transported to Jupiter Medical Center, was released from the hospital while the second adult tragically died at the same location.
Ongoing investigation into the incident is being carried out by the Jupiter Police Department, in cooperation with the town’s building department, Harbourside Place, and Florida Power & Light, to determine how the fountain became electrified.
