One Dead, Another Hospitalized After Police Standoff in Tamworth

A 47-year-old man succumbed to injuries, while a 55-year-old relative remains under police guard following a rooftop confrontation with NSW Police.

  • NSW Police were called to a Tamworth home on Saturday afternoon after reports of a welfare concern involving two men.
  • A 47-year-old man was found with critical head injuries and later died at Tamworth Base Hospital.
  • A 55-year-old man, allegedly armed with a knife, barricaded himself in a bedroom before climbing onto the roof of the home.
  • During the standoff, the man reportedly stabbed himself, threw roof tiles at officers, and pulled down a police ladder before falling from the roof.
  • The 55-year-old is in serious but stable condition under police guard, as detectives and the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad investigate the incident.
