Overview
- Platte County Dispatch received reports around 6:20 p.m. Wednesday of an explosion and residential fire on the 300 block of East Meadow Street.
- Officers arrived within minutes to find the home fully engulfed, and firefighters later located one deceased person inside.
- Smithville Area Fire Protection District led the response with mutual aid from Kearney, Central Platte, Camden Point and Edgerton-Trimble fire departments, plus Northland Regional Ambulance District.
- Utility crews from Spire Gas and Evergy addressed potential hazards as fire crews worked to extinguish flames and remaining hot spots.
- Authorities say no additional victims are believed to be involved, and the victim’s identity and the cause have not been released.
