Overview

• The Wright County Sheriff’s Office received a report just after 10:30 a.m. that a fishing boat had overturned on the Mississippi River near Xcel Energy’s Monticello nuclear generating station.
• Three men were in the water, with two reaching shore and the third located unresponsive and later dying, according to authorities.
• First responders attempted life-saving measures on the unresponsive individual and transported him to a hospital.
• Xcel Energy employees, the Monticello Fire Department, the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the Minnesota State Patrol assisted in the recovery.
• The victim’s identity and the circumstances leading to the capsizing have not been released, and the sheriff’s office has opened a death investigation.
