On Eve of CAN Final in Rabat, Senegal Lodges Security and Fairness Grievances as CAF Touts Record Revenues

Senegal is pressing CAF to address security, training-site and ticketing concerns before Sunday’s Rabat finale.

Overview

  • CAF declared CAN 2025 the greatest commercial success in African football history, citing revenue growth of more than 90% and setting a $10 million winner’s prize.
  • Morocco’s Education Ministry reprogrammed national exams from January 19–20 to January 20–21 to let students follow the final.
  • The Senegalese federation reported inadequate security on the team’s arrival at Rabat’s rail station, a concern echoed by coach Pape Thiaw, who said his players were in danger.
  • The FSF said hotel arrangements were corrected only after a formal protest and formally refused to train at the Complexe Mohammed VI, arguing it is the host team’s base and poses an equity issue.
  • Senegal’s allocation for supporters was capped at 2,850 tickets across categories (300 in category 1, 850 in category 2, 1,700 in category 3), which the FSF called insufficient for a stadium of about 68,000.
