OMCs Raise Commercial LPG and Jet Fuel Prices

Sustained crude strength plus a weaker rupee from the West Asia conflict are driving monthly hikes that add cost pressure for restaurants and airlines.

Overview

  • The monthly revision that took effect on 1 November raised the 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder by ₹10 to ₹2,820 and lifted aviation turbine fuel to about ₹138.50 per litre.
  • Subsidised domestic LPG stayed at ₹942 for a 14.2-kg cylinder and retail petrol and diesel prices were left unchanged in the November update.
  • This is the third straight monthly increase for commercial LPG and the fourth straight monthly rise for jet fuel, reflecting serial small adjustments tied to international benchmark moves and exchange-rate shifts.
  • State-level value added tax causes different retail outcomes, with Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai facing larger effective hikes because local levies are added to the OMC-set base price.
  • Jet fuel is a big airline cost item, accounting for about 40% of operating expenses, so repeated per-litre rises can squeeze carriers’ margins and feed through to fares and service costs while businesses that use commercial LPG face higher operating bills.
