Overview
- Responding to BJP legislators, the chief minister told the Assembly on Thursday that he will personally pursue pending Ranjit Sagar Dam commitments with Punjab.
- He said he will take the issue directly to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to enforce the 1979 sovereign pact at the 600 MW Ranjit Sagar project on the Ravi.
- Despite a 2019 power sale agreement with Punjab State Power Corporation, J&K receives no electricity yet because required transmission lines are not in place, with a provisional tariff of Rs 3.5 per kWh.
- On compensation, the government counted Rs 85.48 crore due to J&K oustees, Rs 71.15 crore released by Punjab, and Rs 15.94 crore still pending in the compensation account after interest and court adjustments, with some payments held up for want of Aadhaar, PAN and bank details.
