Om Birla Opens First National Women’s Empowerment Committees Conclave in Tirupati

The two-day meeting centers on women-led development in a tech-driven economy with a declaration due September 15.

Overview

  • Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla inaugurated the conference, calling empowered women central to the vision of Viksit Bharat and citing the women’s reservation law as key to future leadership.
  • Deliberations focus on AI, machine learning, blockchain, robotics, quantum computing, biotechnology and cybersecurity through the lens of inclusion, digital safety, STEM participation and gender‑responsive budgeting.
  • Organisers reported participation from more than 20 states and over 100–250 delegates, with senior presiding officers in attendance, while Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was unable to join due to inclement weather.
  • Andhra Pradesh Speaker C. Ayyannapatrudu urged mandatory 60 sittings a year and a ‘no work, no pay’ rule for absent lawmakers, which Birla said could be discussed at a presiding officers’ meeting in January.
  • A concluding declaration is slated for September 15, drawing on recent CPA resolutions to curb disruptions, strengthen research support and expand digital tools, alongside Birla’s proposal for a National Legislative Index.
