Olympique Lyonnais Secures Thiago Almada on Loan from Botafogo

The Argentine World Cup winner joins Lyon until June 2025, marking his first move to European football.

Thiago Almada, 23, has been loaned to Olympique Lyonnais from Botafogo until June 30, 2025, in a deal announced on January 15, 2025.
The loan comes as Lyon navigates a transfer restriction imposed by the DNCG, allowing them to acquire players only through loan agreements.
Almada, a 2022 World Cup champion with Argentina, recently achieved a domestic and Copa Libertadores double with Botafogo in Brazil.
Previously, Almada played for Atlanta United in MLS, where he was named Rookie of the Year in 2023, before transferring to Botafogo for €19.5 million in 2024.
Lyon announced Almada's arrival with a humorous video referencing Cristiano Ronaldo's comments about Ligue 1, highlighting Almada's familiarity with Lyon's stadium from the Paris Olympics.
