The Finnish ice hockey player faces a 'long and hard fight' after a collision during a match left her paralyzed from the chest down.

Finnish ice hockey player and two-time Olympian Sanni Hakala has been paralyzed from the chest down after a collision with a goalpost during a match.
Hakala, who was playing for Swedish club HV71, also reported reduced function in her arms and hands.
The 26-year-old underwent surgery for severe neck injuries sustained in the collision, but the procedure does not appear to have been successful.
Hakala has had a successful career in ice hockey, winning bronze medals at the 2018 and Olympics, and several medals at the World Championships.
She has expressed determination to face her new reality, stating 'This situation obviously sucks but I'm not scared to take it on.'
