Olympian Rebecca Cheptegei and Alleged Attacker Die After Fire Assault

The Ugandan athlete and her ex-boyfriend sustained fatal burns in a dispute over land in Kenya.

Rebecca Cheptegei, a Ugandan marathon runner, suffered burns to 80% of her body and died in a Kenyan hospital.
Her ex-boyfriend, Dickson Ndiema, also died from burns sustained during the attack.
The incident occurred after a quarrel over land at Cheptegei's home in Trans Nzoia County, Kenya.
Cheptegei had competed in the 2024 Olympics, finishing 44th in the marathon.
This is the third high-profile femicide case involving elite athletes in Kenya in recent years.
