Olive Oil Prices Hold in Stores as Farmgate Rates Tick Up Late August

End-of-summer promotions keep a litre near €4.5–€5 despite a late uptick at origin.

Overview

  • Poolred reports origin prices moved higher for the week of 18–24 August, with extra virgin near 4.00 in its benchmark and picual in Jaén just under that level.
  • Online listings on 26 August show most chains selling extra virgin near €4.5–€5 per litre, including Mercadona at €4.65/L and Carrefour’s 5L Carbonell at €21.45 (€4.29/L).
  • El Corte Inglés cut Maestros de Hojiblanca 5L from €27.99 to €20.95 (€4.19/L) in a promotion that ends Wednesday, with an extra €10 coupon for each €30 spent on selected items.
  • Alcampo is offering Valdezarza extra virgin in a 2.5L format for €11.87, or about €4.75 per litre, with online purchase and home delivery available.
  • After last year’s €12–€15 per litre peak and a temporary VAT holiday that ended 1 January, prices have settled this summer as a stronger harvest and retailer competition weigh on the shelf.
