Overview

• Prosecutor Tom Little KC introduced Florida court records showing that in 1989, 14-year-old Gordon committed armed kidnapping, multiple sexual assaults and armed burglary, receiving a 40-year sentence of which he served 22 years.
• During cross-examination Gordon alleged human rights breaches in his unsupervised juvenile interviews and challenged the legitimacy of his US convictions.
• The prosecution contends that baby Victoria died from hypothermia or was smothered while Marten and Gordon sheltered in a flimsy tent on the South Downs in early 2023.
• Gordon and Marten argue that the nationwide police manhunt precipitated a series of calamitous events, and Marten testified she ‘blacked out’ and fell asleep over the baby after feeding her.
• Jurors heard that Marten’s parents hired private investigators between 2016 and 2021 in attempts to trace the couple over concerns about their children’s welfare.
