Oklahoma Operation Detains 120 on I-40, Mostly Commercial Truckers

Officials outline a sustained model under a federal 287 partnership that shifts highway enforcement toward coordinated state–ICE actions.

Overview

  • DPS says the sting ran Sept. 22–25 on eastbound I-40 near the Texas line, with 20 troopers working a port-of-entry setup alongside ICE and state narcotics agents.
  • Of the 120 detained, 90 were truck drivers, and 30 others were stopped during routine traffic enforcement, with some having prior arrests for human smuggling, assault or drugs.
  • Everyone taken into custody was turned over to ICE through the Oklahoma City office, with transfers to holding facilities in Oklahoma or Texas and some initial processing in Tulsa.
  • Trucks and cargo were impounded following the stops, and companies are responsible for fines and retrieving their vehicles and loads.
  • Detainees came from 18 countries, and many truckers held CDLs from four states, including 44 from California, with media noting anomalies such as licenses listing “No Name Given.”
