Overview
- Oklahoma launched support on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, allowing residents to add their driver’s license or state ID to Apple Wallet on compatible iPhones and Apple Watches and making it the 16th U.S. jurisdiction to do so.
- Adding an ID requires scanning the front and back of the physical card and completing an identity-verification flow that uses Face ID or Touch ID to confirm the user’s identity.
- Apple says Wallet IDs are accepted at more than 250 TSA checkpoints for domestic travel and Oklahoma will allow the digital credential for age verification at participating tobacco and alcohol retailers starting September 14.
- The digital ID is not a replacement for the plastic card because it generally cannot be used during traffic stops, so officials and Service Oklahoma advise residents to keep their physical license on hand.
- Apple and state DMVs say digital IDs are stored encrypted on the device and release data only after biometric approval, and the feature will expand unevenly as other states such as North Carolina, Utah, Connecticut, Kentucky and Mississippi pilot or prepare rollouts while hardware and OS requirements limit who can use it now.
